Progress
Just received a call from JJ's husband the other night. The past couple of days, she is more aware. She's smiling, waving and trying to speak. Mouthing things like I love you, I love mom, I love Bear (her dog)! She's been giving kisses and hugs and smiles from ear to ear. She is much calmer and seems to be doing really good. She went to the hospital last Thursday for pneumonia. It is getting better as well. It's cleared up in one lung, the other still has some but it is getting better. The doctor changed out her trach, it was a size 8 and they have made it smaller. The doctors hope to start weening her off the trach soon. Once she is off that trach, she won't be so congested anymore and if she wants to speak, she will be able to actually vocalize her words. I went to the hospital to see JJ last night. She was pretty calm and very tired. The speech therapist provided her with a Passy-Muir tracheostomy speaking valve. When this device is attached to the trach, you can actually hear her say "I love you"!!! She was giving Willie kisses and giving me a lot of hugs. She also had an opportunity to speak to her Granny on the phone and tell her she loved her. When her mom arrived, she was able to get Jocelyn to smile. It was definately an ear to ear, eyes light up kind of smile. It was beautiful. Miracles do happen and I fully believe that Jocelyn is on her way home.
