Have you tried a leash called the "gentle leader"? My kids use it for their HUGE boxer/great dane/pitbull, even a child can walk the dog w/o them pulling. It's attached to their face kinda like a muzzle, but not, but it doesn't hurt them at all. Wow, the ER stuff. I wish I could do stuff like that, but it's the afterward stuff I couldn't deal with, like the suicide attempt. I can see how you'd have to keep it together, but you also have to figure out some way to release it.
